Why Micro-Needling / Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?

At Beauty Within, we offer Micro-Needling for facial rejuvenation. This treatment is coupled with either a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) serum or your own Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

This treatment is performed using the Eclipse MicroPen® EVO - the #1 micro-needling device in Canada!

The Eclipse MicroPen® EVO is Health Canada approved.

What Does Micro-Needling / CIT Address?

Micro-Needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a procedure that improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, loss of firmness, brown spots and stretch marks by stimulating the skin’s natural ability to repair itself.

A pen-like device with tiny, sharp needles is used to create hundreds of micro-channels in the skin. This process triggers the skin to release growth factors and cytokines, producing more collagen and elastin, resulting in younger looking skin. The pen glides effortlessly across the skin with the gliding quality of the HA serum or PRP.

  • Non-surgical.
  • Improves the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, loss of firmness, brown spots and stretch marks.
  • Minimal downtime (patients must adhere to Post Care Instructions for best results).
  • Treatment is relatively quick and comfortable (topical anaesthetic is used).
  • Can also be used for hair restoration and other dermatological conditions.

  • Skin will be red and feel irritated for a few hours after the procedure with possible light peeling days 3 – 5 after the treatment.
  • For best results, a series is recommended. A treatment series is 3-6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.
  • Continued improvement may be seen 4 to 6 months after the initial treatment.
  • Maintenance treatment is recommended every 4 to 6 months.
  • Results may wear off if not maintained.
  • Results vary between individuals. Some people exceed our expectations and some people respond below expectations. Although good results are expected, with the focus on improvement and not perfection, every person is unique and it is impossible to guarantee results.

Who Should Not Receive Micro-Needling / Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)?

Micro-needling/CIT is not indicated for deep wrinkles, skin laxity and significant volume loss. It is not recommended if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, have a blood condition especially involving platelets or fibrin, recent blood transfusion, if you have a history of keloid scarring, collagen vascular diseases such as scleroderma or if you have cancer. Avoid treatment in areas where there is skin cancer, precancerous skin lesions, skin infection/or chronic skin condition (eg. eczema, psoriasis) at the site of treatment. If you have hemophilia, infectious diseases or liver function issues, PRP may not be indicated. Bleeding disorders or blood thinners make you more prone to bruising. Smoking/second-hand smoke interferes with healing and may increase the risk of all side effects especially infection. Chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV or other immunosuppressive conditions or medications may increase your risk of infection and other side-effects. If you have any of the above issues there may be a decreased or lack of response to treatment.
